Overview

Microsoft currently restricts Claude deployments on Azure subscriptions managed by a Cloud Solution Provider (CSP), often referred to as an MSP. If your organization's Azure subscription is managed by an MSP, you'll need a direct Azure subscription before you can deploy Claude.

We recommend completing the steps below before you start your deployment.

Check your subscription type

  1. Sign in to the Azure portal.
  2. Search for and select Cost Management + Billing.
  3. Select Settings, then Properties.
  4. Review the Billing account type. If it shows Microsoft Partner Agreement, your subscription is managed by an MSP

If your billing account type is anything else, no further action is needed and you can continue with your deployment. If you don't have access to billing details, check with your MSP to confirm.

Set up a direct Azure subscription

Claude needs to be deployed from a subscription billed directly by Microsoft, such as an Enterprise Agreement, Microsoft Customer Agreement, or Pay-As-You-Go subscription. Your MSP can typically provision this for you and continue to help manage it.

You can use the following message when reaching out to your MSP:

Hi [MSP contact],

We'd like to deploy Anthropic Claude from the Azure Marketplace. Microsoft doesn't currently allow this offer on CSP-managed subscriptions, so we'll need a direct Azure subscription (Enterprise Agreement, Microsoft Customer Agreement, or Pay-As-You-Go) to deploy into. Could you help us set one up by [date]?

Thanks,
[Your name]

Troubleshooting

If you attempted a deployment from an MSP-managed subscription, you may have seen an error stating that the offer isn't available under Microsoft Azure Cloud Solution Providers. This is expected. Set up a direct subscription using the steps above, then try the deployment again.

This restriction is set by Microsoft for partner-managed subscriptions and can't be changed by your organization or your MSP.
